The discussion will focus on three main areas of the Australia-India relationship – enhancing connectivity through infrastructure, deepening economic ties, and strengthening defence collaboration.

As strategic competition intensifies in the Indo-Pacific, Australia and India are emerging as pivotal players in shaping the future of the Indian Ocean Region. While Australia has been predominantly focused on security and connectivity in the South China Sea and Pacific Islands, more attention should be paid to the Indian Ocean region.

  • How are Australia and India working together on connectivity, commerce and collective security in the Indian Ocean?
  • What are the opportunities and challenges in Australia-India cooperation in the Indian Ocean?
  • What does the future look like for this region and what should Australia and India be doing now to prepare for it?

The discussion will focus on the interlinkages of three critical areas: enhancing connectivity through infrastructure, deepening economic ties, and strengthening defence collaboration.
