This program, co-hosted by NSC and the Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO), covers Australia’s nuclear capabilities, radiation fundamentals, radioactive waste management, and nuclear reactors.

The Australian Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Agency (ARPANSA) will discuss regulatory frameworks, while the Australian Safeguards and Non-Proliferation Office (ASNO) will address nuclear safeguards and the Nuclear Proliferation Treaty. The day ends with a session on education, workforce, and social license. Policy makers and stakeholders are encouraged to attend to enhance their understanding of nuclear safety and contribute to Australia’s global nuclear leadership. This one-day course will be delivered immediately after the nuclear submarines course; it can be taken independently or in addition to that two-day course.
