Future-proofing the American-Australian alliance

In response to the substantial geopolitical and strategic disruption underway, the NSC Futures Hub recently delivered a workshop on the Australia–US alliance. The workshop – Future-proofing the American-Australian alliance: exploring opportunities and challenges together in South East Asia and the Pacific – brought together government, private sector, academia and the think tank community to explore a range of interesting 2040 scenarios. Led by Dayle Stanley – the session was aimed at better understanding what drivers might significantly test the alliance in future, explore perspectives and develop opportunities for building resilience into the alliance today.
Dayle recently completed a Fulbright Fellowship at the Center of Strategic & International Studies (CSIS) in Washington DC. NSC also had the privilege of hosting Dr Charles Edel, Senior Adviser and Australia Chair, CSIS, at the workshop.
We thank all the participants for their insights and contributions in making this workshop a success.
Dayle finished her four-year secondment with NSC in February 2025 and has returned to the Department of Defence.
